I guess I can join #PortfolioDay today. I do amateur astrophotography. I spend most of my time on deep space targets, but I had the opportunity to go see and photograph the total solar eclipse this past April.

Here are a few of my favorite photos I've taken of the amazing stuff that's out there.

The Horsehead Nebula is a dark cloud in front of a red cloud of dust that has some almost vertical striations above the Horsehead and a horizontal line that's brighter and goes behind the middle of the Horsehead. The Flame Nebula is to the left of the Horsehead and rotated about 90 degrees counterclockwise. It looks like a flame, but instead of the flames going up, they radiate from a point. The nebula is mostly orange, with a little bit of blue and a dark structure that runs through it, like the trunk and branches of a tree.
Spiral galaxy in an oval shape. The center is white, then fades to orange, then to blue as you get farther from the center. There are many red regions in the galaxy, which are emphasized hydrogen regions. the rest of the frame is dark grey with many colorful stars.

The sun's corona during a total solar eclipse. In the center is a dark circle, with white rays emitted from all sides. On the top left there is a ray that's bigger than the rest, and on the bottom a couple that are more prominent than those around them.
