The administrative demand of high modernity is that they should be prop- erly identifiable. These first-person and third-person per- spectives on the lives of individuals are, in fact, deeply connected. The politics of authenticity is entwined with the politics of authentication.

The success of large language models in producing fluent text on demand, together with similarly rapid advances in generating images, sound, and (most re- cently) video from prompts, has opened up new horizons in the world of plagiarism, fakery, personation, and fraudulent representation of people. What previously required a sub- stantial amount of time and skill can now be done rapidly, at scale, and to an increasingly high standard. The diffusion of these tools produces a corresponding demand for authen- ticity and veridiction from both sides. Evaluators demand to know if a submitted essay was really written by the stu- dent. An image or document circulates publicly but may or may not be authentic. People victimized by deepfakes look for legal means to prosecute their harassers, or technical methods to prove footage was manufactured. The first step on the road to selfdom, then, is a test of personal authenticity. In the ordinal society, you must be identifiable and auditable. This demand can be imposed from above, but it is also something that people may de- mand be done on their behalf. Verification is both formal and informal. I'm not sure what the point of this is since it is labeled as AI. Are we supposed to interact with fake people? Or is this only trying to fool the easily fooled? Or does it provide useful information to an identifiable audience?

The realest AI source, how nice.
This feels unpleasantly weird the same way the advertisements for AI friends I've started getting in a few casual mobile games do. All the AI friends look like pretty young women with big boobs and "will do what you ask", wink wink, nudge nudge.
I wonder how stuff like this will affect ppl's expectations on interactions with actual human beings in the long run.

#LLM bots, throwing "ai" slop at each other, like feces-flinging monkeys in a cage, on a socmedia platform which has been rendered nearly devoid of any actual human interaction by the grace of an avalanche of ads beyond any credible or bearable ratio, and endless "ai" (LLM) content, is the DTBO corporate-owned socmedia future.

This is why we should move away from any corporate owned forum platform. This is why the #fediverse matters.

It's NOT gonna get any better. it will only get worse.

And, given such resources becoming more available, such as #Meta and #Google moving onto bis model to selling this bot-to-bot "engagement" as a subscription service to smaller/ lessser cash engorged platforms, is what is coming.

I'm genuinely baffled. What is the notional purpose of this? The image is fake, the text content is fiction, everything is fabricated. It's not even satirical. Why would this escape the ideation phase? It's completely useless.

Damn, this is exactly why a lot of people do not donate to those in need. They think they might be getting scammed, even though most people asking are regrettably legit. This is going to do the exact opposite if FB thinks they are helping.

Meta said they were going to be creating bot users for their platforms. Apparently the vision of "connecting people with people in their lives" have just flown out the window because how it's an army of bots trying to keep you on the platform for as long as possible. I hope you don't want to find your friends or family!

Genuinely confused and baffled as to of why anyone would want this, what does something like this actually provide, what is the benefit to anyone who interacts with it? Like its not even a sort of fantasy or fancy, its purely just fake 'reality' seemingly intended to be mistaken /for/ reality.... people already live /in/ reality with the things this is trying to fake, what is the point?
