It is not realistic for us to do that. There would be security issues in Chromium and for us to make sure we get fixes to those security issues would become harder and harder.
At Opera we had 100 maintaining Presto. That is more than twice the size of our team. We would need more than that now.

When we evaluated what our options were, we looked at Chromium and Gecko for the most part. We know that starting from scratch would not be feasible for us, having done that before and knowing what it entails.
crypto isnt inherently bad, but it's way too nascent/scammy (for now), so i appreciate keeping it at an arm's distance. at the very least, integrating any sort of crypto features would be a waste of dev resources đ

Google have played funny-buggers with Chromium's extension format so Manifest v3 is here to effectively castrate all of your fave Ad-Blocking tools.
I've been testing Vivaldi browser this morning to see how it's own in-built Ad-Block works. Vivaldi are supporting Manifest v2 for the time being but only until mid 2025 when the Chromium code for v2 will be entirely removed.
Vivaldi's own Ad-Block solution has been described as less-capable but what does that mean in real terms? Does it offer the same level of protection as purpose-specific extensions like uBlock Origin? Is it even capable of offering that level?

Now here's the meat of this post:
Vivaldi Ad-Block ON | UBlock Origin OFF = 74% That's actually reasonable, if not all-encompassing. The Test's own score-banding lists this as a good result. However, a glance down at some of the blocking reveals big names like Google and Amazon are slipping through the net. I personally wouldn't accept this.
Luckily, though, you can import your own block lists to Vivaldi's own default lists. The Toolz test itself lists a couple that they claim will plug the gaps in the testing. Vivaldi's forums linked me to a couple more. Four url imports later (importing the urls rather than text files means they'll update automatically)
Vivaldi Ad-Block ON with Imported Lists | UBlock Origin OFF = 99% 99% again, natively inside Vivaldi without uBlock Origin! That's really great to see although there are tonnes of caveats around this, for example it is only ONE test that might not test for everything needing blocked; it's far from a definitive finding so please don't take this as recommendation just yet.
Vivaldi have said they'll improve the Ad-block in the future as we approach v2 shut-down, and I think it's currently missing Dynamic Blocking which is a bit of a biggie, but my tests above are still very encouraging for the plucky Norwegians. I'll post the url sources in the post below. Feel free to chime in with your own thoughts and experiences!

After my 8-bit Atari, I had no personal computer while at college. Was too busy with class work, and there was no broad access to the internet in those days. On the rare occasion I needed a computer, I used one in a dorm lab or drove home to the Atari. Bought my first Mac in â93, just before graduation.
I had a few #sinclair computers as well, it is where I started on this #it stuff. Always wanted a #QL back then but instead when the time came bought an #Amiga followed by an #atari #falcon then a #pc.. Now I use a #mac mainly for personal stuff. The #falcon was a nice piece of kit but tanked.

My first computer was a Sinclair ZX81. I had it about a year before I switched to a Sinclair Spectrum and a couple of years later I moved on to Sinclair QL.
Some friends of mine had a Commodore 64. They were more expensive, better hardware, but less accessible when it came to programming, IMHO, at least using Basic. So my friends did more gaming and I did more programming.

Texas Instruments TI994A - was cheaper than C64 (maybe earlier) but had colour graphics. Had to use TV as display. Would buy the latest Compute! magazine and type in pages of lines of basic to have a new game.
@cloudhands , that is how I started as well. There was a UK magazine, available in Iceland, that was called Sinclair programs. I would type in programs from that magazine into my ZX81 or Spectrum. Then I would spend time finding typos and bugs... You better be accurate! Learned a lot from that.
One issue with the ZX81 was the RAM pack. After typing for hours, I might push the machine slightly and it would reset... The joy... You might ask why one would not save all the time, but saving on diskette just takes a while.

I don't see the point of having a computer in my car unless it's a computer I bring into the car. Now to be fair, I no longer own a car, but I put a mini-computer onto my bike everytime I ride it.
Not really appropriate in my case as I would need to park when using it. Way faster just using my mobile then. Same goes for a front seat passenger. In addition I use carplay which overlays the android menu system.
Maybe if it android was more standalone, which depends on what kind of internet connectivity is included by the manufacturer. In my case the android in Renault E-Tech requires me to use mobile internet sharing. 4G data is available but its restricted to remote car control etc.
That's only the browser. Changing radio stations, adjusting the temperature, picking an alternative route when traffic is slow are all things that require taking your mind and eyes off the road with a touch screen, a lot more than with physical controls.
Also, the first thing I do when stopped is get out of the car. I hate those cramped things.
@adam_wysokinski @leeloo Not about restrain. Have you tried to use the touch screen in a car? Generally they stop you from doing certain things when the car is moving. That includes browsing.
This is not new.
Now I believe that more functionality should be moved out of the touchscreens. I think that most every thing you use while driving should not be controlled from the touchscreen.
On the other hand, I see no reason not to be able to use the touchscreen while stationary. Many things can be done better that way.

I have to admit, I got drawn to that game by its graphics first and foremost, but gameplay is a ton of fun too. A puzzle platformer with a beautiful atmosphere. Can recommend!
