It’s a topic that is practically inescapable these days, whether online or off. But when it comes to cryptocurrency, all that virtually glimmers is not gold.
It is not realistic for us to do that. There would be security issues in Chromium and for us to make sure we get fixes to those security issues would become harder and harder.
At Opera we had 100 maintaining Presto. That is more than twice the size of our team. We would need more than that now.
@kariboka , I think it is unlikely. It would require a lot of work and it would not make Vivaldi better.
When we evaluated what our options were, we looked at Chromium and Gecko for the most part. We know that starting from scratch would not be feasible for us, having done that before and knowing what it entails.
crypto isnt inherently bad, but it's way too nascent/scammy (for now), so i appreciate keeping it at an arm's distance. at the very least, integrating any sort of crypto features would be a waste of dev resources 👍
