Same with a computers if you don't then you get this current circus where the bar is so low that people cannot properly use the tool but for some reason people in education blame the tool for not being easy enough.

@m0xee chinese have eaten these animals for millenia now. there should have been much more frequent widespread diseases if it was from animals.
OR it just is from the lab that did "research" on weaponizing viruses by gain of function.

Nature isn't exactly the source I still trust and… yeah, exactly — the animal being infected doesn't imply the virus had natural origin.

Well, the article claims that they are still studying the genetic material of those animals, so maybe we will 😜

Also, it's very funny watching the media get so upset about everyone seemingly being super cool with the UnitedHealthcare CEO being assassinated. InB4:
> crying Wojak
> "Nnnooo, you can't applaud this! He-he had a family! You can't just be cool with executives of evil corporations within fucked-up industries getting murdered! Nooo! Stop! This isn't okay!"
Which, I think underlines how the media is state propaganda and control apparatus vs. being aligned with the interests of the people themselves. It's not often that we get to see such a dichotomy, because usually these things are a lot less clear and more obfuscated/ambiguous as there's not often such a clear consensus and unanimity among the population.
This UnitedHealthcare CEO getting murdered was legitimately like an "everybody liked that" incident, regardless of political divide. Except, the media, being a tool of the capital establishment, must run defense and tell us how "bad" this is and that it's "disturbing" if you're okay with, or openly supportive of, CEOs (like this) being targeted.

how can posts by botnets on tiktok be manipulating an election?
don't they trust the electorate to decide? no, they consider the population to be morons. mere extras in their play called "democracy".
the only manipulation i see is REDOING elections until the elites see the result THEY want.
One of the main problems is most people are not taught or know how to think critically. They just believe what ever the “trusted” source tells them.
A little bit of healthy skepticism goes a long way.
Doch Fakt und Wahrheit—ein schmaler Trug.

Possible. But I also know one of these which is my own childhood friend and even tho he works in a thinkthank/uni professor in international laws he's to make a paper on AI in his field but his knowledge on the topic is extremely limited and the knowledge on who he's depending to fill the gap seems to be also limited as I brought him new basic perspectives on the subject last time we saw each other.

at a party i met a nuclear physicist and he blabbered about how easy it is to write python and that he could take any programmers job.
your friend sounds more reasonable listening to others :)

I think that's mainly because it's so abstract from what they're used to that they can even fathom what it is. I'm still trying to make a pedagogical model that most can understand but it's hard to not go into the details, so far my best example is to show do an adder with logic gates then point out how big is a 8 bit adder relay and I ask if they can try to imagine what you can do with billions and billions of transisors instead of around 150 relays.
Then I think another reason is that all computers sold are under the feudal commercial model of microsoft/apple and that they suppressed proper third party market to be able to have something else than the current sandbox.

Als Antwort auf bonifartius • • •that everything is MS or apple certainly doesn't help BUT i started doing computer things with qbasic bundled with the DOS on my parents computer.
people now can just download ANY of the free programming languages or install GNU/Linux. there are so many free resources now, yet most people just don't care. computers aren't easy and the problems they solve aren't easy. it just reduces overall quality to cater to people who don't want to learn anyway, which is why i'm against it.

i guess it has it's uses. only the hype and hyperfocus of academia is telling me that these people might not be as smart as they think 🤷♀️

Als Antwort auf Fish of Rage • • •@sun @anemone @scathach @teratology there sure are interesting things developed by people really deep into these things!
i feel that nearly everyone else is just following hype, especially if from other disciplines.
i also feel that there are much more interesting applications for the highly parallelized hardware. no one (i'm aware of) cares to develop parallel algorithms, instead throwing AI on their problems hoping the giant statistical system will produce usable solutions.

Als Antwort auf bonifartius • • •@bonifartius @teratology @anemone @sun I honestly find modern AI really boring compared to the "dead end" algorithms from the 70s
Like, the insanely high dimensional tensor fuckery that goes on inside neural networks is really cool from a mathematical perspective, but from a CS perspective the sheer brutishness of it is shamefully inelegant

yes, it's just not elegant. i think beautiful or clever algorithms are peak CS and with AI everything is reduced to brute force.
